The Infinite Game of Disc Golf: Taking Care of Body, Mind, and the Bigger Picture

When we step up to the tee pad, it’s easy to focus only on the shot ahead — the par, the score, the number on the card. That’s the Finite Game. As Simon Sinek explains in his book The Infinite Game, finite games are played to win. They have clear rules, a defined start and finish, and winners and losers. But the bigger journey — your growth, your mindset, your health — that’s the Infinite Game. And that’s where the magic happens.
In disc golf, the Infinite Game is everything beyond the score:
The joy of learning a new throw
The discipline of practicing a tough putt
The laughs with your crew on a sunny day
The quiet reset that comes from a walk through the trees
Bad throws, missed putts, frustrating rounds — they sting in the moment, but they’re not the end of the game. They’re part of your evolution. That’s why taking care of your body and mind isn’t just important — it’s essential.
Train for longevity, not just for the win. Stretch. Rest. Eat well. Strengthen your legs, back, and core. And don’t forget the mental reps: breathing, self-talk, and the grace to laugh off a tree kick.
Disc golf is a beautiful sport because it meets you where you are. It challenges your technique and your temperament. It invites you to grow in both precision and presence.
And that’s what I love to teach — how to play the Infinite Game well.
