Community-Based Trainer
Start: June 21, 2026
For age 15 - 30 youth
Employer: Alberta Youth Disc Golf Society
Our mission: To foster the physical, mental, and social development of Alberta youth
through the sport of disc golf.
We hold events for training and tournaments, keeping levels on par with the Professional Disc Golf Association. We also
provide support to other disc golf organizations in the province. Our main tournament is the yearly Alberta JR Disc Golf Championship.
Wage: $16 an hour
Hours: up to 35 hours per week; varied hours; varied days; flexible hours
Length: 8 weeks (June 21 to August 15)
Location: The majority of the work will occur in the Calgary Midnapore federal constituency. Please indicate in your resume if you will need temporary accommodations in Calgary. We will do our best to help. Additionally, as requests for help arise and as resources allow, you may have up to two work days worth each week elsewhere in Alberta. When on the road, you may need to stay in a hotel or campground with others, though specific accomodation needs will be considered. For those under age and for opposite gender considerations, we will ensure the arrangement is suitable and safe.
Potential Tasks and Responsibilities:
Participate in initial orientation and ongoing leadership training.
Join the Professional Disc Golf Association and become a certified official.
Learn and/or improve personal disc golf skills and methods to teach others.
Promote disc golf, especially with regards to youth participation.
Take photos/videos at events and develop storytelling skills.
Plan inclusive events and help make disc golf accessible to all.
Develop or assist in developing promotional materials (social media and physical; e.g. tutorial videos, hype videos, posts about an event, flyers) - depending on skill level.
Design disc golf course signage, maps or stamps for custom discs - depending on skill level.
Assist with new course setup and existing course maintenance.
Setup pop-up courses as a form of introducing disc golf to neighborhoods and communities without a local course.
Teach disc golf at schools, at community organizations or other public places (e.g. parks).
Be a Tournament Director, Assistant Tournament Director, or key volunteer for the Society's tournaments or for other disc golf tournaments not run by the Society.
Sell fundraiser discs and other merchandise to help with the Society's goals (e.g. costs for running tournaments and costs for teaching materials) - depending on skill level.

Technical skills - The ability to develop capabilities that relate to the
practical or mechanical side of an activity, the application of a set of technical processes and it's required know-how.
